Herne Bay
Overview
Herne Bay is a seaside resort situated in the South East of England. It is approximately 7 miles (11 km) north of Canterbury and about 2 miles east of Whitstable. It is famous for its sunsets, its safe clean beaches, and for being one of the sunniest and warmest places in the UK. During the early 1800s Herne Bay was a smugglers paradise and consisted of not much more than a couple of shacks on the beach and some fisherman’s cottages. But during Victorian times the town grew into a prosperous and popular seaside spa town, famed for its “champagne” air and its healing waters.
